Retro Swaps

A crypto swap on two devices that never had one: a Nokia and an iPod Classic. Each plays its swap once, then it's your turn. Pick a token, set the amount and swap. The token you left has something to say.

How it works

  1. Nokia. The centre key selects, C goes back and the rocker scrolls. Type the amount on the keypad, * for the decimal point. With the phone focused, the arrow keys, Enter, Esc and the numbers work too.
  2. iPod. Drag around the click wheel to scroll through Cover Flow and to turn the amount up or down. Press the centre button to select and MENU to go back.
  3. Screens. Both are plain HTML redrawn on every step. The Nokia's pixel icons are 16 × 16 grids drawn as SVG squares, and its screens change in four hard steps, like an old LCD.
  4. Sound. Every beep, click and chime is made in the browser with the Web Audio API, so there are no sound files. The Nokia's message tone is “SMS” in Morse code. Sound starts off; the speaker button turns it on.
  5. Prices. Fixed made-up prices, not live ones, and nothing is sent anywhere.
